Answer 0603: Isn't there a state mandated or required test of some sort that even homeschooled children have to take? Someone else has mentioned it but I was dumbfounded by the question!

No. Parents are totally in charge of their children's education. They can choose to independently test or assess their children as they see fit. There are independent testing companies that administer tests to children other than public schoolers. Remember the old Iowa Basics tests you took in elementary school? Check out http://www.riverpub.com/ the company that publishes IOWA and other tests.

The state does not require homeschoolers to take tests. Thankfully....

You can go to the IHEN New-Schoolers Pages of our web site for current links to the Indiana Dept. of Education and Indiana Education Code. (You know... the real laws we should know and follow.)

When people mention these things that usually don't sound quite right, they usually aren't right. Ask them where they got their information. Quite often we then find that people are expressing their opinions (biased one way or the other) rather than facts based on knowledge. Asking homeschoolers on discussion lists like IndianaHomeschoolers is ALWAYS a good idea, before going off on a tangent with bad information.
