Answer 0203: What are the actual homeschooling laws for Indiana?
You
might be surprised to know that homeschoolers do not exist in Indiana ... legally.
In other words, homeschoolers are not legally defined in the Indiana code. Parents
who educate their children on their own, whether in a home, or cooperative or
take total responsibility for the education of their children... are in the
same legal category as non-accredited, non-public schools. Private schools.
We've written an article explaining the
Indiana Education Code in English, which also includes the original, eye-glazing
text for your reading pleasure. (Works better than sleeping pills!)
If you are wondering how to go about legally homeschooling your child, especially
if he or she is currently enrolled in public school, read the Getting
Started section of this FAQs Database.
